David E Shaw Joins Ocean Elders

Ocean Elders announced that David Evans Shaw has been appointed an Ocean Elder in recognition of his extensive contributions to ocean stewardship.

Shaw currently serves as co-chair of the Aspen Institute High Seas Initiative and founder of Second Century Stewardship, and a member of the Leadership Council of the Service Year Alliance.  He is the founding chair of the Sargasso Sea Alliance and has served as a Trustee of the National Park Foundation, Treasurer of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a fellow of the Explorers Club and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, chair of The Jackson Laboratory and other public service positions.

Ocean Elders is an independent group of global leaders who have joined together to serve as a catalyst in the conservation and protection of oceans to benefit life on earth.

Members include Prince Albert, Richard Branson, Jackson Browne, James Cameron, Jean-Michel Cousteau, Sylvia Earle, Jane Goodall, Ted Turner, Bob Weir, Graeme Kelleher, Seven Lindblad, Gerry Lopez, Walter Munk, Queen Noor, Catherine Novelli, Frederik Paulsen, Bertrand Piccard, Tommy Remengesau, Jose Maria Fiqueres, Nainoa Thompson, Don Walsh, Rita Colwell, Wade Davis and E.O. Wilson.
