IDEXX Laboratories Inc (ticker IDXX) is a worldwide leader in the development and commercialization of innovative technology-based products and services for veterinary, food and water applications. With revenues of ~$1.5 billion, IDEXX conducts operations through more than 60 locations around the world and employs nearly 5,000 people. David Shaw founded the company in 1983 and served as IDEXX’s CEO and Chairman for nearly 20 years.

Ikaria Holdings is a fully integrated critical care pharmaceutical company focusing on life saving drugs. David Shaw served as the company’s founding CEO and subsequently as Executive Chairman. Black Point Group was part of the investment team that created the new company in 2007 via a $670 million cash and stock merger. Ikaria was sold to Madison Dearborn for $1.6 billion in  December 2013, and Black Point Group remains an investor in spin-off Bellepheron.

Venrock is a premier venture capital firm with offices in New York, Palo Alto and Boston. Originally established as the venture capital arm of the Rockefeller family, Venrock continues an eight-decade tradition of partnering with entrepreneurs to establish successful, enduring companies. Black Point Group is a Venrock limited partner and David Shaw was a partner in the firm.

Ironwood Pharmaceuticals (ticker IRWD) is an entrepreneurial pharmaceutical company dedicated to creating, developing and commercializing innovative human medicines. The company is advancing several clinical candidates and is actively marketing Linaclotide, for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation. Black Point Group has been a long time member of the investment team in Ironwood, and David Shaw served on the company’s board of directors for 10 years, beginning in 2004.

Cytyc Corp. is a world-wide leader in women’s health, including novel products and technology for the detection of cervical cancer. The company was acquired by Hologic, Inc. in 2007 for $6.2 billion. David Shaw was a founding director and investor in Cytyc.

Sapphire Energy stands at the intersection of biotechnology, agriculture, and energy developing renewable fuel (known as “green crude oil”) from algae. David Shaw served on the Sapphire board of directors from 2010 to 2014.

Itaconix Corporation is the world leader in producing chemical polymers from itaconic acid. The company’s lead product, DSP2K, is sold to consumer and industrial detergent formulators to replace phosphates, EDTA, citric acid and petroleum-based chemicals.

physion
Physion Consulting is developing cloud based data management tools for a wide range of scientific applications. The company’s Ovation system is already in commercial use. David Shaw is a founding investor and advisory board member.

Sirna Therapeutics was a leader in creating RNAi-based therapies and leveraging the potential of this technology to ultimately treat patients. Black Point Group co-founded Skinetics Biosciences in 2004 to develop RNAi technologies in the dermatology market, and the company was subsequently acquired by Sirna. Sirna was acquired by Merck & Co., Inc. in 2006 for $1.1 billion.

Cornerstone Brands is an established leader in direct marketing of the finest home, leisure and casual brands including Frontgate, Garnet Hill, Ballard Designs and Smith & Noble. Cornerstone was co-founded by Bill End in 1995 and sold to IAC/InterActiveCorp in 2004. Black Point Group was an investor in Cornerstone Brands.

FetchDog was a Maine based catalog and website serving the needs of passionate dog owners. Black Point Group founded the company in 2007 and provided management support until its acquisition by PotPourri Group in 2012.
