David Evans Shaw is Managing Partner of Black Point Group, with wide-ranging interests in technology companies and public service. His business creation, leadership, investment and board experience includes IDEXX Laboratories (founder, CEO), Ikaria Pharmaceuticals (founding CEO, chair), Sapphire Energy, Ironwood Pharmaceuticals, Direct Vet Marketing, Itaconix, Skinetics, Modern Meadow, Cyteir, Cytyc, Magen, Physion, Venrock Associates, New Mountain Capital, the film Albert Nobbs (executive producer), and others. He has also served as a strategy consultant to consumer product, food and agribusiness companies.
Shaw has served on the faculty of Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and the advisory board of the Center for Public Leadership with interests in leadership, corporate governance and business social responsibility. He is Treasurer of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) publisher of Science, founding chair of the Sargasso Sea Alliance (ocean conservation), a director of the National Parks Foundation, and a science advisory board member to Discovery Communications. Other affiliations have included Chair of The Jackson Laboratory (genetics research), a board member of Maine Medical Center and Hurricane Island Outward Bound, a member of the Executive Committee of the US-Israel Science and Technology Commission, the Council on Foreign Relations, ServiceNation, the selection committee for America’s Best Leaders (US News and World Report), YPO, CEO and others.
Shaw was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Colby College in 2012. IDEXX was inducted into the Life Sciences Foundation’s Biotech Hall of Fame in 2008.
In September 2013, Shaw and the executive committee of the Sargasso Sea Alliance (SSA) were named “2013 International SeaKeepers of the Year” by The International SeaKeepers Society.

Ben Shawis a Founding Partner of Black Point Group, and manages a mix of private and public equity investment activities in the healthcare, internet media and technology sectors.
Ben is also Founder and CEO of Direct Vet Marketing Inc d/b/a Vets First Choice, a leading provider of ecommerce and marketing solutions for veterinary hospitals and their pet owner clients. Vets First Choice enables home delivery of FDA- and EPA-approved pharmaceuticals, therapeutics diets and compounded medications to pet owners on behalf of more than 8,000 veterinary practices in the United States, and was recently named by Inc. Magazine the 24th fastest growing company in the US. Ben was previously a Founder of FetchDog.com, a catalog and website for passionate dog owners, and managed business development at The VIA Group, a leading strategic marketing communications firm.
Ben has served as a trustee of Maine Huts & Trails and The Jackson Laboratory. He is also an active alumni advisor to Bates College, where he graduated with a triple B.A. in biology, political science and environmental sciences.
