Expedition to Antarctica
by David E. Shaw
I visited Antarctica in February 2020 for a first hand experience in a place that is special in many ways.
It is a place of awe-inspiring natural beauty, including spectacular wildlife.
It is the coldest, windiest, driest continent on Earth.
It plays a vital role in the planet’s ecosystem including climate and ocean currents.
It is a place of alarming change in a warming global climate. Temperatures on our arrival day were the warmest in recorded Antarctic history.
It has been the scene of extraordinary exploration and discovery.
It is governed by 53 nations, currently working together for peace and science.
I share this short video to contribute to global appreciation of the character, history and importance of Antartica.
