Arctaris Welcomes David Evans Shaw to Board of Advisors

Successful technology company entrepreneur will support Arctaris investments in underserved communities

Arctaris Impact Investors, LLC (“Arctaris”) announced the addition of David Shaw to its Board of Advisors. Shaw has extensive leadership experience in high growth ventures, business creation and the public sector. He has built more than a dozen successful technology companies in healthcare and other industries.

A highlight of Shaw’s notable career was his role as founder, CEO and board chair of IDEXX Laboratories LLC (NASD: IDXX), a leader in pet healthcare innovation, offering diagnostic and software products and services to practicing veterinarians around the world. Shaw also served as founding chair of Ikaria (acquired by Malllinckrodt), a critical care pharmaceutical company, and Covetrus (NASD: CVET), a global animal-health technology and services company.

Arctaris plans to utilize Shaw’s expertise when investing in economic development initiatives in the State of Maine and also science and technology companies located in Opportunity Zones nationally. Shaw, the current CEO of Black Point Group (www.blackpointgroup.com), will also advise leadership on investment strategies to revitalize economic development and healthcare in underserved communities.

Shaw’s career has previously included partner and advisory roles at Venrock Associates, SVB, Leerink and Polaris Venture Partners. He has served on the faculty of Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and the advisory board of the school’s Center for Public Leadership. He is a founding director of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum, Chair-emeritus of The Jackson Laboratory, and Treasurer emeritus, trustee and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Shaw has been a global leader in science-based conservation of nature, both marine and terrestrial, as a trustee of the National Park Foundation during the U.S. National Park Service centennial, as founding chair of the Sargasso Sea Alliance and Aspen High Seas Initiative, as a Patron of Nature to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, as a member of Ocean Elders and as founder of Second Century Stewardship for America’s National Parks. Shaw was appointed by President Clinton to the executive committee of the U.S.-Israel Science and Technology Commission. He has served on the board of Maine Medical Center, Hurricane Island Outward Bound, the Advisory Board of Curiosity Stream, the scientific advisory board of Discovery Communications, the advisory board of Just Capital, and a Fellow of The Explorers Club, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Leadership Council of the Service Year Alliance.

Shaw joins CEO of the Sorenson Impact Center Geoff Davis, former U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, former OFFITBANK Executive Wallace Mathai-Davis, co-author of the Opportunity Zone legislation Steve Glickman and former Kaiser Permanente Diversity Chief Beverly Norman- Cooper on the Arctaris Board of Advisors.
