David Bennell is a senior advisor with Black Point Group. He is a leading ESG and Sustainability professional with over 25 years of experience with corporations and investors, as well as with many of the world’s top NGOs and philanthropic foundations. He’s an advisor to the $28 billion (AUM) Transformational Investing in Food Systems Initiative, helped create the Food and Capital Markets Program at the $40 billion investor network Ceres, and worked in management at the world’s top sustainable business association WBCSD, a CEO-led collaboration of 200+ of the world’s leading companies.
He worked directly in the corporate sector as an employee at Microsoft, REI and LL Bean managing R&D, leadership development and sustainability programs and held a 5-year appointment at MIT as adjunct faculty in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics. David was the lead consultant in the creation of the USA’s first fully accredited MBA degree program in Managing for Sustainability, co-created the for-profit social enterprise company CottonConnect in India (a 2012 finalist for World’s Most Ethical Company), helped launch a multimillion-dollar impact investing fund focused on rural community and economic development, and co-created and led the global apparel industry standards non-profit Textile Exchange, co-chaired by Patagonia and Nike.
David wrote and presents one of the world’s most watched sustainability education courses viewable on Linked In Learning (titled: Sustainability Strategies) named the #1 global course for impact investors, He is a popular speaker, has been quoted in print media, and interviewed on podcasts, television and radio, including NBC News and NPR’s The World. He has an undergraduate degree in environmental studies, a graduate degree in health and human performance, is a delegate of the Prince of Wales Business and Environment Programme and was a Fellow of Yale University’s Environmental Leadership Program.
