Epic expedition through Western Papua to summit Carstensz Pyramid

David Shaw reflects on an Epic expedition through Western Papua to summit Carstensz Pyramid

As a huge snowstorm sweeps through New England I’m reminded of an epic expedition I joined 20 years ago to climb Carstensz Pyramid in Western Papua, Indonesia.

Carstensz is the highest mountain between the Americas and the Himalayas, and is located in one of the most remote and unexplored landscapes on the planet.  Our expedition offered a rare opportunity to explore landscapes and cultures largely hidden from the modern world.  I made this film to share that experience.
