Aspen Oceans Initiative announced at Ideas Festival

On June 30, 2017, a bold new ocean protection initiative was announced via a panel discussion at the Aspen Ideas Festival, entitled “protecting Earth’s last conservation frontier: high seas”.

David Shaw is a founding member and co-chair of this initiative to seek wise stewardship of oceans beyond national jurisdictions. These “high seas” represent more than 40% of the Earth’s surface and a far greater percentage of the planet’s biosphere.

The planning process for this initiative is now underway. Excerpts from the Aspen Ideas Festival session are included in this short film:
