Supporting Edible Schoolyard Project

by David E Shaw

https://edibleschoolyard.org/about-usWe gathered in New York City on April 15 at the annual EDIBLE SCHOOLYARD gala to honor chef, restauranteur, author, activist and sustainability warrior ALICE WATERS, with remarks by Bette Midler. Alice proposes that all K-12 students be provided free sustainable school lunches.  I’m pleased to support my friend’s important work.

Alice founded the Edible Schoolyard Project in 1995 with the idea that we can transform children’s relationship with food if we give them a taste of what’s possible. To demonstrate this simple truth, Alice Waters created the first Edible Schoolyard in partnership with the principal at a public middle school in Berkeley, California. The project benefitted from her perspective as a trained Montessori teacher and political activist, along with an already renowned reputation as a gifted chef and champion of sustainable agriculture.
