David Shaw's career has combined business leadership, government and community service, strategy consulting and investment management. He is a founder, former CEO and executive chairman of Ikaria Holdings, a bio-pharmaceutical company (2008 revenues ~$240MM), founder and retired CEO of IDEXX Laboratories (2008 revenues ~$1B), and has been a director and/or founding investor of numerous high growth companies. He has been active in venture capital investments as a partner in Venrock Associates, in private equity investments as a senior advisor to New Mountain Capital in New York City, and in both public and private investments as Managing General Partner of Black Point Group, a family partnership.

Recently he has served on the faculty of Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government leading programs in corporate governance and business social responsibility, and serves on the advisory board of the school's Center for Public Leadership. Other non-profit involvements and affiliations have included The Jackson Laboratory, Maine Medical Foundation, Hurricane Island Outward Bound, the US-Israel Science and Technology Commission, the Council on Foreign Relations, the 2008 ServiceNation summit, the US News and World Report selection committee for America's Best Leaders, NetLeaders, Fortune Brainstorm, TED, Teach for America, Time World Health, the US Department of Defense Joint Civilian Orientation Conference, business school lectures, The Young Presidents Organization and The American Association for the Advancement of Science .
